Considering a Teaching Career After MBA: Is a B.Ed Necessary or Will NET/SET Suffice?

Yaasmin
Dear Senior,

I am a working professional with 8 years of experience, holding a BA in English Literature. I am currently pursuing an MBA in operations. I am considering a long-term perspective of working flexibly and, to some extent, entering the teaching profession.

I am planning to take the NET/SET exams after completing my MBA in December 2011. Therefore, for teaching positions in undergraduate colleges or MBA colleges as a lecturer, whether regular or part-time, is it necessary to have a B.Ed or will my qualifications of MBA along with NET/SET be sufficient?

Any information regarding the NET/SET exams would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Any candidate holding a master's degree can take the NET/SET or MBA B.Ed exam.

  • If you intend to teach English in colleges at UG level, NET/SET is compulsory, and you may also have to complete an MA.
  • If you intend to teach MBA students, then industry experience is more important, and there is no compulsion to clear NET/SET.
  • If you intend to teach in school, you must have a B.Ed degree.

Hi,

For Prof. and Associate Prof., a Ph.D. is mandatory, whereas an Asst. Prof. requires an MBA with 2 years of experience in Education or Industry. B.Ed. is not required for Higher Education. No NET/SET is required as per AICTE Guidelines. Please refer to the AICTE Website.

UGC-NET exams are conducted in June and December. Please refer to the Employment News Paper and UGC Website in March and September.

I am going to appear for a part-time MBA. Will I be eligible for NET/SET? Will a part-time MBA be considered for the same?
