Can I Pursue a Ph.D. in HR After PGDBM? Seeking Guidance on Career Shift and Study Options

Hi, I am Vaibhav Sharma, working with a finance firm. I did my PGDBM in HR and Marketing in March 2007. I want to pursue higher studies in HR. I have also written some research-based articles on Balanced Scorecard in Indian organizations. I came to know that one can't pursue a Ph.D. after PGDBM; it's possible after an MBA degree from any university.

I have confirmed from AIMA that they offer doctoral programs after PGDBM, but it requires work experience of 5 years. Currently, I am working as a senior relationship manager, which comes under marketing. As soon as possible, I want to shift myself to HR. Kindly guide me if there is a way out to do a doctoral program after PGDBM in HR. In case it's not available, what other options are there?

Indian universities are inconsistent when it comes to recognizing PGDBM courses. They label them as post-graduate but do not acknowledge them for Ph.D. programs, insisting on an MBA degree instead. If that's the case, why do they offer PGDM courses at all? They strictly adhere to the rulebook, requiring a master's degree in the subject, and they do not consider PGDBM equivalent to a master's, which, in my opinion, is entirely incorrect. I, too, have completed a PGDFM and aimed to pursue management, but they did not approve.

AIMA is a private institution with high fees. It may be more beneficial to enroll in a university program. You might consider Bharathidasan University in Trichy for the program.

Could you provide some information about yourself so we can continue our discussion? In this forum, people often do not disclose their identities, making it challenging to sustain relationships. This approach seems more opportunistic than focused on fostering long-term friendships.

Several universities, including Lucknow University, Punjab University, and the Fellowship Programme, recognize the PGDBM. To find out more about them, please do some research.

I have completed my M.Pharm and want to pursue a PhD in management. Currently, I am also pursuing a PGDBA from Symbiosis Center for Distance Learning. Can anyone suggest where I can go for a part-time PhD in management? I have heard about Bharathiar University in Coimbatore, but I believe they do not require an MBA. Can anyone help me with this issue and guide me through it?
