What is a 7A enquiry in the Employees' Provident Fund?

7a is an inquiry undertaken by an APFC or above officer to assess the dues that have not been paid. In case you have paid the dues for the "inquired period" properly and on time, you just have to show the PF challans to the APFC. He will then issue a speaking order in which he will calculate any pending dues, if any, and issue an order asking you to pay the amount immediately.
