Marketing jobs generally pay low fixed and higher variables. If you are confident of your marketing and sales skills, this can be a job that will add to your soft skills.
A key to selecting a second job or a vocation is to align it with what you want as your primary career.
I know a Ph.D. student who has been working in a typesetting firm for the last three years. A job as a copy editor may not add to his knowledge level. However, the company is in the research paper publishing industry. Hence, it offers him the best option to read research papers as a part of his job.
