Can You Transfer Provident Fund Balances Between Private and Government Jobs? Let's Discuss!

Dear all,

The balance of the provident fund can be transferred by filling up Form 13 under the PF Misc Prov Act 1952. But can the balance of the Provident Fund (under the PF Act) be transferred to the Provident Fund (under the GPF Act)? Consider the following example:

Mr. X is working in a private organization covered under the PF Act. After a few years, he left the organization and joined a central or state government job where GPF is applicable. So, is he able to transfer his balance to the current employer from the past employer? Let's also consider the example vice versa.

Hi,

Regarding your query, we faced a similar situation recently. The only difference was that in our case, GPF money needed to be transferred to the EPF Account. In this case, we sought special permission from the competent authority to transfer the GPF amount to the EPF amount as the concern is a State Govt. undertaking originally covered under the GPF Scheme. We successfully had the GPF amount transferred to the EPF account of the employees.

However, there is no provision in the EPF Act to transfer the EPF money to any other account besides the EPF account. Similarly, there is no provision in the act to transfer any other amount to the EPF account, but we managed it by obtaining special permission from the competent authority.

Therefore, I believe that in your case, you can also approach to seek special permission to transfer the EPF money to the GPF account.

Good luck.
