Struggling to Get My AGM to Prioritize Safety: Need a Powerful Accident Prevention Slogan

SSM1975
Dear Sirs,

We have an AGM project. He never cares for safety. I am trying my best to guide him towards a safer approach. As a precaution, I take daily photos of unsafe conditions and send them to him.

I am seeking a very effective and powerful "Accident Prevention" slogan to include in every email I send to him, hoping to capture his attention, even if only slightly. I have reviewed all your previous posts but have not found one that feels strong enough. Please help me find one.

Thank you.
Regards,
SSM

Dear SSM,

Understanding Your Requirements

What I understood from your email:

NO P.D.: For AGM, there was no Position Description or safety responsibilities and authority are not adequately addressed for the same. Sending daily slogans is one way, but you should put your efforts into developing the safety management system.

Dear SSM,

I want to share an idea with you. In our plant, we have a "One Day Safety Officer" program in which people at high positions (like you, AGM) are made safety officers for one day. They take plant rounds, issue citations, point out and report unsafe conditions and acts, conduct permit audits, can stop any job if found unsafe, etc. This means they have all the powers of a safety officer, just like the NDO (Night Duty Officer).

So, you can make him Safety Officer for one day and let him point out things; only then will he realize because it is much easier to point out mistakes than to follow them. Probably, he will then realize. You can try this. We circulate the report prepared by him to all area incharges, and as it is a report at the AGM level, people have to take corrective measures. And as Abhay said, you can develop management systems by involving them too.

Dear friends,

Really great inputs... I am surprised. However, the atmosphere here is totally different. It's a relatively new setup, and people as a whole are hurrying to work on targets, leaving no time for safety. I am gradually introducing safety tools and system elements. Here, no hard and fast rules will work. I am going along with them and helping them understand what safety means for them. I am confident that I will see success as time progresses.

Please help me with the slogan I have in mind.

SSM

Dear SSM,

It may be possible in industries, but it can't be possible in construction. It's not possible for a safety officer to know everything in one day. Don't take this type of risks; if you have confined space entry, how will your AGM, acting as a safety officer, check? What does he know about confined spaces? Even our safety professionals sometimes... It gives the worst results to you. Having a one-day safety officer is not feasible at all sites/places.

Please don't mistake me, M/s. Hansa; this is my opinion. I hope you take it positively.

My advice is to prepare a presentation with site pictures showing hazards; it should explain future problems.

What is going to happen?

How are we going to prevent it?

Why do we want to prevent it?

Etc...

Please remember one thing: after submitting your presentation to your management, your presentation should speak to them, not to you. That's the real power of a safety professional. "Please remember, your presentation speaks to your management, NOT YOU."

All the very best.

Please search on Google; you will find a lot of award-winning slogans.

Dear Abhay, HRD, Hansa,

Thanks for your inputs. Keep on sharing.

Waiting for commands.

Dear Raghu,

Nice to see your opinion. He has an additional responsibility for safety. He goes along with the safety officer. If he is in doubt, the safety officer guides him. So, like this, he also learns and gets to know about different safety aspects.

Secondly, the persons who make people work should themselves know what shortcuts they are taking and how unsafe they are making the people work. This will involve top management as well as the learning process. Things can be better understood if you put yourself in others' shoes.

Hansa Vyas
