Accept The New Offer Or Be In The Existing Job - Dilemma

rameshvijayakumar
I was involved in a discussion with one of my close friends about a dilemma he was caught up in. He is a person who believes in working faithfully for a company and only leaves if he feels there is no progress or growth for him. This is why he has never spent less than three years in any company he has worked with, with the longest being seven years.

He recently joined a new company (from a completely different industry) a couple of months ago and is enjoying the learning opportunities there. However, he received a job offer from another company in a similar industry to his previous one, which also happens to be a big name. This has left him feeling conflicted about his next step. While his mind tells him to take the new job, his heart is hesitant to let down the current company that has been providing him with growth opportunities, support, and personal development.

What advice should I give him to help him navigate this dilemma?

Hi VRK,

I do not think he should leave unless there is a strong reason to shift from this job, which, as per your post, is not there. Whether it's a big name or a small name, it does not matter if the person is satisfied with the job. Encourage him to be loyal.

The answer is already there in your posts, dear, so make a choice and be content.

Dear Mr. Ramesh,

Dilemma is a state of mind where one's thoughts get frozen as he is confused with many options. There is a way out to get out of such a situation by seeking advice from experts/seniors with practical experience about LIFE.

I do agree with Ms. Archna and suggest your friend not to get attracted towards anything, whatever is beautiful.....it's purely "illusion."

Always remember that a "BIG NAME" can be referred to as "RESPONSIBILITIES COME WITH POWER." If your friend wants a BIG NAME, then he will end up with many issues (more responsibilities) that he needs to address. He may not find a "Peaceful Ambiance" which he is experiencing now, and of course, a "BIG NAME" may also give him "BIG MONEY," and then he will end up playing a "BIG GAME"... The end results, no one is aware of it because only TIME can define it.

Please visualize the future before you make any decision. Our brain is capable of differentiating between GOOD and BAD, SAFE and UNSAFE PRACTICES, and a lot more.

The Almighty will bless us more if we try to be happy with whatever we possess today and keep thanking Him always for everything He has given us. I don't want to use the word "GREEDY," but it is what makes us run after MONEY, SUCCESS, etc., as we are not able to SATISFY OURSELVES.

Hi VRK,

I know a few of my friends who hold multiple offers in hand and stay in a state of dilemma to choose the best among them. For some, CTC matters, for others, job nature matters, for a few, brand name matters, etc. Based on what they actually want, they choose the company. Similarly, ask your friend to arrive at a strong reason on why to quit the current company. He will find the answer by himself, i.e., either to quit and accept the offer or to continue with the same company. As far as I am concerned, job satisfaction is the key thing in any job that we take, without which we cannot move forward. Big names/brand doesn't guarantee the same. Additionally, it seems to be only a few months that he had joined this company. So, I would suggest him to continue with the same company instead of making too many switches.

Hi,

You have not mentioned which industry he is working in. What I feel is, if the opportunity is better than his current position, then definitely he will gain the same reputation in the new organization. However, it will take some time if the person dedicates himself to the work in the new organization. I hope he makes the best decision. All the best for his career.

Yours sincerely,
Balaji

Dear Opportunities knock on the door once in a lifetime, but advice knocks at every step of a person's journey. So, ask your friend whether they need a big company, a big name, and big responsibilities to learn more in life or if they are satisfied with a small job and responsibilities. Instead of saying, "I did my best for the company," and ultimately blaming oneself for not receiving anything, not even a good PF at the time of retirement.

Come on, Boss, get up! Where are you? If you want to achieve something new in life, try to live and swim in the ocean where life is vast. When you want to succeed, you must surpass others to win and see the world. Do not confine yourself to the ponds where swans swim peacefully and believe their life is beautiful.

Cheers!

Dear all,

Giving advice is an easy job, but pragmatic life is totally different and unique. Let me put it this way: there are many who are self-motivators, especially couples, who support such views. "What a horrible life this is... why should we trouble ourselves and others as well... let's commit suicide and relieve ourselves forever." But one doesn't know how difficult it is to relieve their soul from their body because they don't have that kind of experience in life. There are people who have lived more than one life; that's totally different.

Allow him to experience his fate, let him choose his destiny for which he shall be held responsible for everything he has chosen. Everyone is unique in this world, and everyone has their own limitations, preferences, commitments, capabilities, abilities, and much more. As a behavior specialist, this is what I have practically learned in my life.
