Resignation Notice Period: Can Employees Still Get a Salary Increase?

vidhi_1705
If an employee has submitted their resignation and is currently in the notice period, are they eligible for a salary increment?

No, if he/she has been serving the notice period, then he/she is not eligible for a salary increment.

Understanding Salary Increments

Increment means we increase the salary of an employee to encourage them to perform better continuously. However, if the employee is leaving the service, then there is no increment.

Sorry to differ with the nay-sayers. INCREMENT MUST BE ALLOWED, if that becomes due on a particular date, even if that falls within the notice period, as an increment is granted based on the past service of an employee and NOT for the future service to come.

I wonder if some HR personnel prefer to work merely on a hit-and-trial basis rather than on reality or a professional basis.

I agree with Mr. P. S. Dingra; he is entitled to an increment for his contribution in the past year, not for the future, if he has performed to the satisfaction of the employer.

Dear all, I fully agree with Mr. P.S. Dingra. Please note that until he leaves the organization with full and final settlement, he will be deemed an employee of the organization and is eligible for an increment. Just imagine, suppose he met with an accident out of his employment during his notice period, can his employer escape from the provisions of the Employees' Compensation Act?

Above all, we, the HR people, never treat an employee on a notice period as an enemy to the organization. They may contribute something to the betterment of the organization during their period of work, and that should be respected.

An increment in salary is a reward to employees for the hard work they have put in to achieve the organization's goals. Therefore, an increment should be given to resigned employees if he/she has served in the given financial year.

I agree with Shri Dhingra. Since the annual increment is allowed for service already rendered, it has to be allowed even to an employee who is about to resign. Otherwise, it shall amount to withholding the annual increment, which can only be withheld for specific reasons specified in the rules of the organization (if there is any such rule in existence).

Unless the rules of the organization spell out that the annual increment shall be disallowed to an employee who is serving the notice period, it cannot be done. There is no law governing the issue. However, justice and fair play cannot be thrown out of the window.
