Human Resource Management (HRM) is concerned with the development and implementation of people strategies that are integrated with corporate strategies. It ensures that the culture, values, and structure of the organization, as well as the quality, motivation, and commitment of its members, contribute fully to the achievement of its goals.

HRM carries out the same functional activities traditionally performed by the personnel function, such as HR planning, job analysis, recruitment and selection, employee relations, performance management, employee appraisals, compensation management, training, and development. However, the HRM approach performs these functions in a qualitatively distinct way compared to Personnel Management.

In my view, the fundamental meaning of HR is to take care of the most needed resource in the organization, i.e., people. It aims to align individuals to bring out their best for the organization. Essentially, it involves managing individuals who contribute to the business, addressing their needs, demands, and expectations, filling in manpower gaps, and taking necessary steps through Performance Management Systems (PMS), engagement, and welfare initiatives to ensure that people are motivated to contribute in the best possible manner.
