Hi all, I am an IT Recruiter with 3.4 years of experience. How can I become an HR Generalist without pursuing an MBA? Is it possible? Would a distance MBA work for me? Are there any other options available? Please help.
As a retired academic without experience in HR, I do not think mere experience as a recruiter will be enough for an engineer (I am one too) to become an HR generalist. Usually, a distance MBA is not considered equivalent to a full-time MBA. I am sure some HR experts will provide you with better advice.
Education is a medium, but not the only medium to learn and do things. My case was similar. I think if you are offered an opportunity in a generalist profile and want to learn and continue, then definitely take it. In parallel, you can pursue your MBA part-time or through distance learning, or prepare for a full-time MBA from a reputed institute.
I am also working as an IT recruiter. I have done my MBA (HR) with a background in BTech. My suggestion is to go for a regular MBA. If that is not possible, consider distance learning. The point here is not just how much you know, but also that certificates matter, though not as much as experience.
I have a good experience in HR, but I am only a graduate. I would like to ask why an MBA is important for HR. I have almost done every work related to HR.
MBA is not important; however, it's a question of supply and demand. If there are people who have an MBA in HR applying for jobs, then companies are likely to go for them.
