Insights on Psychometric Testing Tools and Their Application in Organizational Behavior

prags83
Hi all,

I am a budding psychologist in the field of organizational behavior, particularly focusing on a project about psychometric testing. I am interested in specific details about MBTI, 16PF, and Firo-B (3 tests).

1) Can these tests be used for recruitment and selection purposes?
2) At what levels, ranging from technical executives and middle management to senior management?
3) Where can these tests be procured or bought by an organization?
4) What are the costs involved in using these tests?
5) Is it better to use a consultant to conduct testing for the organization, or should organizations purchase the tests and interpret them internally if trained professionals are available in the organization?

Please help me clarify the above queries. Share your views and opinions on any test or all. If anyone wants to recommend any other tests besides these three, kindly enlighten me!

Thanks for your support; it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a ton,
With Regards,
Pragati

Dear prags83,

Namaskar.

You are a student. As you say, your department is well-equipped for imparting training on psychometry even to those who have no psychology background. Please complete this general aspect first.

Manuals of the specific tests will give you all details. Forum replies can never be a substitute for the test manuals.

Search the net. You will get ample articles on the tests you have mentioned.

Wish you all the best for your project. Good luck.

Dear Pragati,

I have completed a postgraduate degree in Psychology and conducted some research on FIRO-B.

Let me try to address your queries specifically related to FIRO-B.

1) Can these tests be used for recruitment and selection purposes?

FIRO-B analyzes the factors of inclusion, control, and affection in the expressed and wanted areas, which are essentially indicators of social behavior and how individuals interact in groups. Therefore, this cannot serve as a standalone selection tool. It can only assist interviewers during the interview process.

2) At what levels can these tests be utilized, ranging from technical executives and middle management to senior management?

These tests can be applied across all levels once the scores for all factors have been benchmarked for each level. For example, the score for expressed control may be high for a top-level position but may not be desirable for a junior-level position.

3) Where can these tests be procured or purchased by an organization?

Mostly, these tests are available on the internet, and books on these tests can also be found. I have encountered some books by Pestonjee, although I'm not certain if FIRO-B was included in those publications.

4) What are the costs involved in using these tests?

Currently unclear.

5) Is it better to use a consultant to conduct testing for the organization, or should organizations purchase the test and interpret the results themselves (if trained professionals are available in the organization)?

If there are trained professionals within the organization, then employing a consultant may not be necessary.

These days, Thomas profiling is extensively utilized in organizations as this test is implemented throughout an employee's career. You may also want to explore this tool. There have been numerous discussions on this topic on citeHR.

I hope you find this information helpful.

Hi,

I would like to convey my sincere thanks to Mr. Mirza, Jogeshwarji, Mamta Mam, and Mr. Gautam for their invaluable input.

I would like to know if, besides these individuals, any particular tests are recommended for selection in a manufacturing firm to choose people for the Finance and R&D (Technical) departments, managerial roles, etc.

Also, when it comes to assessing the technical skills of graduate engineers, which skill tests are more important to be evaluated? Are there any recommended standardized tools for this purpose?

Kindly advise.
