Am I Eligible for ESI Benefits During My Maternity Leave as a Teacher?

usharanikadali
Good morning to all. I am working as a teacher in an international school. I joined in November 2010, and they have been deducting ESI from November 2010 onwards. Now, I am availing maternity leave from October 10th, 2011. Am I eligible to receive ESI benefits? Please send me a reply.

Yes, you will be eligible for the benefit under maternity benefit as you would have finished almost 11 months of contribution to ESI by then. The minimum requirement, as per ESI rule, is that maternity benefit is available to a lady if she has worked 80 days before confinement. So, no worries, you stand eligible. Hope that helps.

To be eligible for the ESI benefit, a woman is expected to work for not less than 70 days. Hence, you can easily avail yourself of the ESI benefit.

You will be entitled to maternity leave if your confinement occurs after nine months from your date of entry. In the period from October 2010 to March 2011, the number of days' wages paid should not be less than 70.

Yes, you will be eligible for ESIC benefits. You will be paid 84 days' salary by the ESIC. Just submit the required forms on time to the ESIC office.

Dear Usharani,

ESIC Half-yearly return will be submitted before May 15, 2011, and the relevant benefit period will start on July 1, 2011. Hence, you will be eligible for Maternity benefit. Please visit your ESIC Local office along with a photocopy of the half-yearly return. Similarly, when registering with an ESIC Panel Doctor, discuss this with him, as he will guide you accordingly.

Thank you.
