Dear Nirmala,
Just being a TL doesn't makes a big difference until and unless you know how to tackle your team members. First thing that an TL should gain from their team members is respect then confidence and at last a small fear, without this it becomes difficult to handle them.
First of all try not being very jovial with them, be kind, be nice to them. Don't share any sort of your personal matters with them. Instead of commanding them, learn to educate them. Know how to mold them. Keep them busy, thats the only way to close doors to all unecessar discussions.
Make a weekly schedule. Allocate it to your team members. Give them a dead line to complete, ask them to update on their daily tasks. Weekly conduct a team meet to see where they are, try bringing your reporting head to keep him updated of what you are doing, listen to their quieries, be professional. Also try to bring an HR into your discussions on weekly basis such that they get to know what is happening.
Incase if you don't have any work to allocate them, then conduct training sessions, update them on current technologies, also show them how mis-behaviour can reflect in their annual appraisals. Record everything. Don't let anyone to abuse or fight or get into unnecessary conversations with you in front of other team members as other might also behave with you in the same manner. If things go out of your hands, bring your immediate supervisor into role. Escalate issues which you find it difficult to solve.
Have enough evidence to show the bad attitude / No proper time management / no respect for senior members / Doesn't complete work on times etc of an employee to your HR department. Issue an warning letter to that concerned employee, ask HR to take necessary actions, then others will stop behaving in negative prospect as they get to know how things can shape up.
Maintian that decorum of an TL. Be bold, active, professional, learn to keep an hold on your employees, care for them, be kind, be polite, don't shout at them, be technically strong, learn Latest trends, follow your company policies. Once in a while take your team for lunch, outing, if they work too hard then talk to your HR and give them an official off, if someone in your team does a outstanding job then appreciate him/her in front of all employees and if possible get him/her an outstanding award or cash Reward etcc..
Please get back to me in case if you have any more queries
