How a Sardar's Wise Words Changed My Perspective on Stereotypes and Success

In the Diwali vacation, Jayant and his couple of friends had gone to Delhi. They rented a taxi for local sightseeing. The driver was an old Sardar, and boys being boys, Jayant and his pals began cracking Sardarji jokes, just to insinuate the old man. But to their surprise, the fellow remained unperturbed. At the end of the sightseeing, they paid up the hire charges. The Sardar returned the change. Moreover, he gave each one of them one rupee extra and said (in Hindi, of course), "Son, since morning you have been telling Sardarji jokes. I listened to them all and let me tell you, some of them were in very bad taste. Still, I don't mind because I know that you are young blood and are yet to see the world. But I have just one request. Here I am giving you one rupee each. Give it to the first Sardar beggar that you come across in this city."

Jayant continued, "That one rupee coin is still with me. I couldn't find a single Sardar begging on the streets of Delhi."

Friends, we all love Sardar jokes. But the fact of the matter is that Sikhs are one of the most prosperous and diversified communities in the world. The secret behind their universal success, according to me, is their willingness to do any job with utmost dedication. A Sardar will drive a truck or set up a roadside garage or a dhaba, but he will never beg on the streets.

Superb, dear. We must not make jokes about someone to the extent that they feel bad, even by pinching them on their community, religion, beliefs, country, etc.

Hey, nice one. I hope that at least a few people, after reading this, will not crack jokes about Sardars. Most of the Sardar jokes are PJs, and I personally don't like Sardar jokes. Thanks for sharing 

Hi friends! Excellent posting. The Sardar community is very prosperous, and the spirit of entrepreneurship is high among them. That is why we don't find Sardar beggars. Even I had this thought. I have never come across a real Sardarji begging, other than some fakes I came across in Mumbai.

I have always met jolly Sardarji businessmen and individuals in other vocations. Cracking jokes on Sardarji, I feel it's okay to an extent. It's just part of being humorous. I never take any Sardar jokes as a real representation of the Sardar community. I just enjoy the message and humor. There are some smart jokes on Sardarjis as well.

However, any jokes that are obscene, hurtful, vulgar, and absolutely unacceptable towards any person, community, religion, or faith should be discouraged. Nowadays, we see on television that jokes are cracked in the name of a sense of humor and a laugh-at-yourself attitude.
