I once had a close friend. We were sitting by a swimming pool one day when she filled her palm with water and presented it to me, saying, "This water, carefully contained in my hand, symbolizes love. As long as you keep your hand gently open, allowing the water to stay, it will remain. However, if you attempt to close your fingers around it in a bid to possess it, it will find the first crack and spill out. This is the major mistake that people make when they encounter love. They try to possess it, they demand, they expect, and just like the water spilling out of your hand, love will retreat from you. Love is meant to be free; you cannot change its nature. If there are people you love, let them be free beings. Give without expecting. Advise, but don't command. Ask, but never demand. It might seem simple, but it may take a lifetime to truly practice. It's the secret to true love. To truly practice it, you must sincerely feel no expectations from those you love, and yet, have unconditional caring."
