Hi,

A Skill Matrix is a tool where you can create a matrix that includes all the skills necessary to perform a specific job role, such as problem-solving, decision-making, MS Office proficiency, team management, etc.

You would then assess and rate each skill every 3-6 months, depending on your requirements. Following this assessment, you will know who stands at which level for the required skills, providing you with concrete data for Training Needs Analysis (TNA).

You can identify individuals who are not meeting the skill requirements for their role and nominate them for training to bridge the skill gap.

I hope this explanation clarifies the concept for you.

Hi Rajesh,

I would suggest using HRIS for the skill matrix. If you start updating the skills of employees in an Excel sheet, after some time, its maintenance will become a tiresome activity.

Sir,

A Skill Matrix based on the work knowledge in the work environment allows for the maximum utilization of an organization's employees' knowledge to identify the required skill matrix level.

Hi Rakesh,

A skill matrix is like a rubric which has certain evaluation criteria attached to it. After the evaluation, you can determine who needs to be trained in which area.

Cheers!
