Seeking HR Roles with Travel Opportunities: Is There a Path for Freshers?

Dear Respected Seniors,

I always appreciate CiteHR for the invaluable support and guidance during my career life. This time too, I want some suggestions for my work life. I wanted some advice on whether any job in HR requires traveling. I am desperately looking for a change in my current profile and seeking something in HR where there is traveling involved (30-40%).

HR Roles with Travel Opportunities

Is there something like this? If yes, then in which area of HR and after how many years of experience can a fresher also get such a profile? Additionally, if I join as a Business Development Executive (BDE), will it be primarily in sales? Can I have a BDE role in HR with some traveling involved?

Please guide me. Your suggestions and advice would be highly appreciated.

Travel Requirements in HR Roles

The amount of travel involved in your work purely depends on the profile you work with, the functions you perform, the areas/locations under your purview, and above all, the nature of the company.

In normal cases, HR professionals are stationed at corporate/regional offices and travel less for their activities. This will depend on what the profile demands, such as whether routine visits to the branches/locations under one's purview are necessary. The visits can also be for exigencies or troubleshooting and vary from company to company and industry to industry. In the above-mentioned cases, I don't see any chances of 30-40% travel involved in your work.

Recruitment and Travel

Recruitment is one area of HR that requires continuous traveling, depending on the sourcing model of the company. If there are campus placements or walk-ins at different locations/cities, you need to travel a lot. This might take up to 70-80% of your time. A company will not risk offering this profile to a fresher, as it involves expertise in onboarding people with a short time for decision-making. An HR professional with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience will be an ideal match for this profile.

Business Development in HR

Business Development in HR happens with consultants offering HR solutions to companies. This profile may include a lot of traveling, meeting people, and closing business. This is an area of HRM that includes a lot of travel and demands a better level of experience, knowledge, and expertise in HR.

I would look for something in recruitment and maybe after 3-5 years, I might get the desired profile or something in Business Development Executive (BDE).
