Employee Retention in Indian IT: Are Current Strategies Really Working?

Organizations, despite adapting numerous steps to retain their employees, what is the success rate of the policies and procedures followed in such organizations? What is the current scenario of retention strategies in our Indian IT sector? Hope you add some important points.

Indeed, retention is a thought-provoking topic to date for many IT and BPO companies. There are three basic things for retention, i.e., Respect, Recognition, and Reward. How we use them is left for the understanding of the organization employing them.

I believe that the first step to improving employee retention is to understand why employees stay with their current employer. Many "experts" dwell on the reasons employees leave, which is not as important or revealing as the reasons they stay. Make them fall in love with the company - that's the best strategy if you want the talented lot to stay within.

Another important factor is bad recruitment - Hurrying up this process often results in bad or wrong recruitment, and then it becomes even more obvious that these wrong guys will eventually leave the company.

Let's see what other HR people have to contribute...

Retention strategies should be industry-specific. Knowledge-based industries like the IT sector should provide opportunities for employee knowledge sharing and growth.

Some time back, a senior HR colleague remarked, "Salary comes only once in a month... what matters most is the remaining 29 days and the desire to come each day, every day... looking forward to coming to work."

So, money as a retention tool is not working. People need more than just money. Loyalty and lifetime job security will not hold you long, but the ability to enjoy the work you do and getting opportunities to learn, display, and expand is what will make me come back every day.
