Confused About HR Education: Is a Correspondence PGDBM from Symbiosis Worth It Without HR Experience?

shaina_dighe
Can anybody help me with this? I know that Symbiosis offers a distance learning PGDBM (correspondence), but can anyone tell me if they also have a regular PGDM in HR? Does a correspondence PGDBM from Symbiosis have value because I don't have experience in the HR field, but I have worked in a BPO for 3 years as an agent, not in HR. So, I'm confused if I should take up an MPM course or a correspondence PGDBM from Symbiosis. I'm interested in the HR field. I would appreciate it if people reply to this.

Hi,

I am not too sure if my advice would help you much in your field, i.e., HR, but as far as a course from Symbi is concerned, whether it be correspondence, it would be good. Correspondence courses are better only if you have valid job experience; they are beneficial only if you have job experience. Otherwise, no one values a correspondence course, be it from any institute or college.

So, in my opinion, you can go for the course from Symbi provided you are working somewhere simultaneously...

All the best :)

Hi,

Since your experience is in BPO and not in the HR line, that is not useful in building an HR career. My suggestion is to go for a branded institution, preferably one that has campus placements so that you can start a career in HR. Alternatively, try to transition from BPO to an HR function once you complete or while pursuing a part-time course in HR.

Distance education is valid only if you already have a job and are working somewhere. Entering a job with a degree from distance learning carries some risk. However, it is not overly difficult because communication is a key area that HR functions look at. If you are good in communication, it is the most valuable skill you have to secure a good job in HR.

All the best.
Murali.

Hi Shaina,

Since it's just a BPO, I would suggest not going for a correspondence course. If you are not interested in pursuing a full-time MBA, another option for you could be to try your level best to get into a company, even a small one, as an HR if your communication skills are good. Trust me, in smaller companies, you get to learn more. Then you can pursue a career in HR by taking admission into a correspondence course from Symbiosis.

Hey Deepika,

Symbiosis also offers a one-year part-time PG course in Personnel Management. What is your opinion on this course? Can it help in HR? Can you also explain what SAP HR means?

Hi, I have 2 years of work experience in the HR domain. Now, I want to pursue a distance MBA in HR. My last qualification is an MBA in Environment Management from IISWBM. I am looking to enroll in a distance MBA program at SCDL this year. Could you please provide information on the admission date at Symbiosis and the total course fee?

Regards,
Gitanjali
