If you go through the provisions of the Factories Act, you will find that section 51 provides for weekly hours, section 54 provides for daily hours, and section 55 provides intervals for rest, while section 56 provides for spreadover. Spreadover is the timespan between when a worker punches or swipes their card until they leave the factory at the end of their shift. This duration cannot exceed ten and a half hours, including the intervals for rest. Therefore, intervals for rest are not included in the working hours. The working hours prescribed under section 54 and the intervals for rest prescribed under section 55, when combined, are referred to as the spreadover, which cannot exceed ten and a half hours. The lunch hour is to be regarded as an interval for rest.
