Need Help Designing an Employee Satisfaction Survey for My Summer Project in Manufacturing?

Hi, I am Pradnya, an HR student. I am supposed to do the summer project 'Employee Satisfaction Survey' in a manufacturing company. Can anybody guide me on how the process of this survey should be and which points should be considered?

Hi,

I am also working on a similar project but in an NGO. My project has already started, and I may be able to help you out a little. Since you are working on the project in a manufacturing firm, first of all, try to study the work conditions, processes, and everything else related to the practical situations there as much as possible.

Secondly, decide on the level of employee you are going to survey, whether it is top, middle, or lower level.

Thirdly, try to find out the policies and procedures followed in the organization. After that, conduct a thorough study on the job profile of the selected level of employees.

Fourthly, identify the factors you will consider for measuring the satisfaction level.

Lastly, prepare a relevant questionnaire.

This is how I started, and I hope these steps will help you. Good luck, my friend.

Hi, this is Pradnya. Please, can someone guide me on how to analyze the data produced by the survey conducted? What are the steps or methods that should be followed, and how can I arrive at a conclusion?

For calculating the Employee Satisfaction Index:

1. There is a five-point scale in the questionnaire based on which the employee responses range from Strongly Agree, Agree, Undecided, Disagree, Strongly Disagree.

2. The negative and positive questions are then aligned so that the remarks range from Strongly agree (5) to Strongly Disagree (1). This is just in case your questionnaire has some negative questions to ensure that the employees have not simply marked the questionnaire without reading.

3. The total number of questions with answers against each response is calculated (5, 4, 3, 2, 1).

4. The total number of questions answered is calculated (just in case somebody has avoided marking an answer for a particular question in the questionnaire) (TOTAL).

5. The TOTAL SCORE RECEIVED is calculated = (total number of responses of 5 * 5) + (total number of responses of 4 * 4) + (total number of responses of 3 * 3) + (total number of responses of 2 * 2) + (total number of responses of 1 * 1).

6. Calculate the MAXIMUM TOTAL SCORE, which is the TOTAL (pt. 4) * 5.

7. This gives the INDEX, which is the TOTAL SCORE RECEIVED / MAXIMUM TOTAL SCORE * 100.

Hi Mrunali, how are you? I am fine here, doing a project. Just tell me one thing, is it okay if I use only one tool, that is a questionnaire, for the project, or must I go for others? You told me about the 5-point scale, right? But somebody asked me to use a 10-point scale. Can you guide me in this case? What should I do because I have very few days in my hand to complete the project?

One more thing, I want to send you the questionnaire which I prepared just to know your views and suggestions. If you give me your email ID, then I will forward the questionnaire because I don't want to forward it on this site before any confirmations.

Hi,

Kindly note that when you are preparing questionnaires for any project or survey, they should be as simple as possible. However, the questions raised should cover the essentials of your project.

The simple reason behind the questionnaire being short and simple is that the person filling it out will not get bored. Please prepare a questionnaire with about 25-30 questions.

Hi,

I went through your questionnaire. You can include a few more questions on the leave provided by the company, the welfare facilities, the social security measures provided, and employees' learning opportunities. You can also ask about the infrastructure (lighting, drinking water, workstation not overcrowded, etc.), recreational facilities, transport facilities, canteen facilities, motivational factors in the company, etc.

As you mentioned that you have some queries, feel free to ask them. If you need any more help, let me know.
