Struggling with VLOOKUP: Why Are My Dates Turning into Numbers in Excel?

kamalarya
I have two Excel sheets.

The first Excel sheet contains the following columns:

- SNO
- EmpName
- Date of Joining
- CardNo
- Alias

The second file contains the following column:

- SNO

I want to move the Date of Joining column to the second file.

I have tried this numerous times using VLOOKUP with no success. The Date column in the second file, after moving, does not display dates; instead, it shows numbers. I want the exact dates, not numbers.

I am attaching the file for your reference.

Please help me solve this problem.

I do not know what you want to do. Why not just highlight the column and then copy and paste it to the second sheet? Also, click on the strings for VLOOKUP at the right of this box. Have a nice day.

Hi Kamalarya, it's simple. After performing a VLOOKUP, just select all the numbers there and right-click. Choose "Format Column" from there, select "Date" in that tab, and click on the date format you want to apply. That's it.

Hi,

I don't know whether you've got the reply for this concern you have had. But in the 2nd sheet, you can format the cells with dates.

Process:
1. After VLOOKUP in the 2nd sheet, please select the 2nd column and right-click the mouse.
2. In the pop-up menu/taskbar, please click on "Format Cells."
3. In the number tab, click on "Date" and select the date format you are looking for, then click "OK."
4. This solves your concern.
