How Do You Grade IT Professionals on Seniority and Performance? Seeking Your Advice!

Hi there!

Can anyone suggest to me how to grade IT professionals based on seniority, performance, or if there is any other method? Please help me out with this issue.

Hi,

I believe you want to grade employees for performance appraisals. In IT, grading is based on performance. Usually, CTC/Salary will be based on experience. Thereafter, everything is based on performance because time is a constraint in software projects.

Contribution/value addition, Knowledge Sharing, Process adherence, handling Risk Mitigation, Project Change Management are the components for which weights will be assigned for performance evaluation. Usually, goals are set at the beginning of the year, and performance will be monitored based on the achievement of goals.

The parameters may vary from role to role.

Hi!

Thanks for the reply. It is not an issue of performance appraisal. This is regarding City Compensation Allowance & Project Site Visit Expense. Will grading on the basis of performance work out? I do have doubt if it will create a problem. I need your suggestion.

Dear Priya,

We should have a policy for the reimbursement of expenses when employees travel outside the base location. This reimbursement can be either based on actual expenses or a fixed amount, depending on the city categories (A, B, C, and others). Other expenses such as conveyance and telephone usage should be reimbursed on an actual basis. Lodging and boarding expenses may vary according to the grade, but all other expenses will be reimbursed based on actuals. The eligibility criteria for transportation methods like taxi or auto will vary from one grade to another.
