Understanding the Difference Between an Apprentice and a Trainee

What is the difference between an apprentice and a trainee employee? If there are any differences, what are they? Why do employers hire apprentices and trainees? Can anyone explain this to me, please?

Roles of Trainee Employees and Apprentices

Trainee employees are in operation, management, and administrative staff roles. Technical staff members are apprentices. I think so.

According to the law, any technical operation-based organization that provides vocational courses to a person who is not below 14 years of age is considered an apprentice. On the other hand, a person who, after finishing their education in the initial stages, is appointed as a trainee employee or management trainee. The probation period depends on the organization's discretion to determine the duration.

I seldom heard from the apprentice these years. From my understanding, there are two main differences:

1. A trainee employee is an actual employee hired by certain organizations. Organizations have to pay them a salary and provide certain benefits. An apprentice is not considered an employee, but he/she may receive some subsidy from the organizations or individuals.

2. Both the trainee employee and the apprentice are under agreements with organizations/individuals. However, the agreement between the trainee employee and organizations should be a standard labor contract, while the agreement between the apprentice and organizations/individuals should be a loose statement regarding the learning environment, subsidy/benefits, and contract period.

Apprentice Trainee is an individual who is receiving a stipend from the government and the company they are working with. Apprenticeship Training is a fixed-term contract, usually for one year. After that, government stipend will not be available, and the company can continue to avail of his/her services if they wish to. Also, an individual who underwent apprenticeship training with one firm cannot go for the same in another company to benefit from the stipend. There is an Apprenticeship Act and a body that takes care of this. Companies register their apprenticeship hiring with this body so that they can process the stipend further.

This is a learning opportunity for freshers, and they have very minimal responsibilities.

A Trainee employee is one employed by the company after the completion of the training period; he/she will be absorbed if things are going as normal. They receive a salary as per the company policy.
