Feeling Stuck: How to Handle a CEO Who Won't Provide Your Promotion Letters?

lily123
Hi all, I have been treated unethically at the office. I have been working for 2.4 years in the same company and work under a CEO who stays in the US, and I report directly to him. I take care of some HR operations in the company.

Here's the Issue: I have not received any documents (such as hike letters, promotion letters, etc.) from him until now, and he refuses to provide them until I leave the company. What should I do now? Can I ask for signatures from my teammates since I don't have any managers above me? Please help me.

Lily

I am also facing the same problem, but the difference is I have only been here for 1 month. Whenever I ask for an offer letter, I have been replied to with comments like, "What difference does it make?" So, I know how it feels when an organization is not professional. But you need to persist and create a documentary record of all the documents you have asked for. Put in writing what your boss has promised you; then, it will make some sense to some extent.

It's unethical, but keep yourself calm. Just do one thing, and I know it's hard to follow: calmly ask your boss why he wants you to leave the job. Do you have a salary slip? If you have a salary slip, then this will serve your purpose, but politely ask for the letters.

Hi Lily, In your post, you mentioned that you didn't receive any documents related to a hike or promotion. From this, I assume that you might have already received the appointment letter. Just keep the payslip with you and politely ask the CEO for the reasons behind not providing the mentioned documents. There's no need to press the panic button yet as you have the appointment and payslips (I assume) with you.
