Does Your Personality Shape Your Success in HR, or Is It Just About Skills?

Is it true that your personality also determines whether you can become an HR professional or not? Does personality, I mean outlook, matter?

---

In the field of Human Resources, personality plays a significant role in determining one's success. A person's personality traits can greatly influence how they interact with others, handle conflicts, and make decisions. Having the right personality characteristics such as empathy, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities can certainly enhance one's effectiveness in an HR role. However, it is essential to note that while personality is important, it is not the sole factor that determines success in HR. Skills, knowledge, and experience also play crucial roles in shaping a successful HR career.

There is a difference between beauty and personality. Beauty is exterior, and personality is the inner glow. When I select candidates, I look at the personality and not beauty. I hope I am answering your question.

I am pursuing HR from Pune University. What I can share is beauty is important as far as the person taking the interview gives preference on that scale, but the everlasting impact on the interviewer can be made by smartness and only smartness. Without beauty, smartness may have a few limitations on the way, but they can be overcome. However, beauty without smartness is a complete no-no. It may help land a person a job, but it can't sustain it for long.

As a student, I just shared my perspective.

Thanks

Hi,

According to me, beauty would have some sort of impact on the interviewer/interviewee as it is a general tendency of human beings to get attracted to a beautiful person. However, beauty itself is a relative term. Beauty without knowledge, smartness, or personality would not survive in the long run.

Beauty works for the short term; it is the personality that works in the long term, isn't it? But it is the work that plays an important role.

You know, one should have a pleasing personality, no doubt, because without that, your communication won't have the kind of effect it should have. Good personality doesn't always include good looks. If you have them, it's an added advantage.

No matter what marketing and finance guys say, HR is the most glamorous and powerful function in any organization.

It all depends on how you define beauty.

For me, beauty is a reflection of you as an individual and comprises your internal and external reflections.

Your internal beauty is really important as it makes you a real individual. Your behavior, attitude, and thought process are all part of it.

External beauty is also important as it gives the first impression even before speaking to you. You need not be fair or good-looking, but the most important thing is how you carry yourself, your dressing sense (should be as per occasion), your facial expressions, and your body language. In a nutshell, "How you present yourself."

Now, being SMART is also a very important factor, not just for HR professionals but for anyone to be successful in the world.

When I say SMART, for me, being smart means understanding the situation correctly, responding intelligently, and thinking promptly. Taking the right action at the right situation is being SMART.

Now you can decide better on what is important. In my view, everything is important.

Take care,

Hey,

HR personnel should have a good personality, but it doesn't mean he/she must be beautiful. Smartness can be judged while the candidate is answering the questions, and personality, gestures, and posture also make a difference.

An HR person should be very diplomatic and smart.

Hi,

I think to be able to gain respect and acceptance, a person should be empathetic so that others can rely on them for their worries. Although a "thing of beauty is a joy forever," in practice, a beautiful face usually does not equate to a beautiful heart. It is often just to attract attention at first glance without speaking.

Hi Karuna,

As per your opinion, an HR person should be beautiful so that people can come and share their problems. This is right, but if their problems are not solved, they will not come again. Therefore, smartness is also required to perform the duties given.
