One evening, Mr. Raman entered home late with a lot of fatigue from office work. He saw his son waiting in the drawing room.
Mr. Raman: "Hey son, what are you doing here?"
Son: "Dad, if you don't mind, can you tell me how much you earn in an hour?"
Father: "Why? I earn Rs. 100 in an hour. What's this about?"
Son: "Dad, I actually wanted Rs. 50."
Father (getting annoyed): "What? Don't you see the effort I put into earning this money? How much longer do I have to work hard physically and mentally for it? I can't afford your unnecessary toy needs. Just go to bed."
The son went to bed disappointed. Mr. Raman sat on the sofa, feeling more relaxed, and thought, "What have I done? My son probably needed something like a book or a pen. I shouldn't have scolded him. I should have asked him what he really wanted."
Mr. Raman walked to his son's room, expecting him to be asleep, but the son was lying on his bed.
Father: "Son, are you asleep?"
Son: "No, Dad, I'm not."
Father: "Son, here's the 50 bucks you wanted."
Son (taking the money): "Thanks, Dad."
The son then took out another 50 bucks from under his pillow and collected the money. Seeing this, the father got angry again and yelled at his son.
Father: "What's this, son? If you already had enough money, why did you ask for more?"
The son gave all 100 bucks to his dad and asked him, "Dad, here's Rs. 100, your earning per hour. Can I buy one hour of your time to have dinner together tomorrow?"
Tears started flowing from Mr. Raman's eyes. He gave his son a warm hug and promised to spend the entire next day with him, devoting due time to his family.
Family is as important as your job. Just as you are responsible for your duties at work, you are equally responsible for your personal duties towards your family.
