The Factories Act, Mine Act, Plantations Labour Act or (State) Shops and Commercial Establishments Act have provisions relating to so many welfare measures to be implemented in the establishments like, setting up of clean rest rooms, creches, canteens, wash rooms, ambulance rooms etc subject to some conditions regarding the number of employees employed and the nature of work performed. These are statutory welfare schemes which are mandatory in nature without which the establishment has no right to exist. At the same time there are so many other schemes which are not mentioned in these Acts, like play ground, medical centres, cinema halls, cooperative stores, schools for children of the employees etc. These shall be treated as non statutory welfare schemes of the establishment.
