Facing Legal Threats After Breaking a Job Bond Due to Family Emergency – What Can I Do?

deadwaytoheart
Please help me. I was working for a company where I signed a 2-year suretyship agreement (bond) for a minimum 2-year period of service. However, due to the ill health of my father, I resigned within 5 months of joining as he was facing problems running the family business. I have mentioned the same in my resignation letter to the company.

Now the company is threatening to take legal action against me. I am attaching a copy of my bond. Please suggest what can be done, as I am not in a position to pay such a huge amount.

I hope people will reply to this post quickly.

The only way out could be to prove that you are facing psychological problems due to work. Or, if you are a bold type, just leave it. They will send you some legal notices, so hire an advocate to draft replies. However, I would seriously recommend that you adhere to what you agreed to earlier while signing the bond. The consequences of your actions can be devastating. All the best.
