How Can Job Seekers Verify the Trustworthiness of Recruitment Firms and Companies?

It has been noticed that some recruitment firms and companies are not dealing in a fair and justified manner. Therefore, as job seekers, we sometimes do not feel like trusting such recruitment firms and companies.

In a recent incident, a call was made by a recruitment firm for a certain position. The candidate's profile was lacking in some areas. The recruitment firm made changes to the job profile of the candidate in the resume and almost copied similar responsibilities mentioned in the job description.

In another incident, an employee was promised by the company that he would be given extra benefits in the form of incentives verbally. However, such benefits were never given by the company even though the target was achieved.

We seek your guidance on how to check the trustworthiness of companies and recruitment firms. Just like companies check employees' references and backgrounds, can we check the genuineness of recruitment firms and the HR practices of companies?

Unfortunately, we do not have an interactive platform for employees to share their experiences and provide guidance to junior employees while working in organizations.

This is the practice of many recruitment firms and consultancies, but not all consultancies are the same. Some are genuinely honest in their business. However, when I approached a private job agency run by a government officer, he asked me for one month's salary, and the company HR also asked for one month's salary. Despite agreeing to give two months' salary, I was called for interviews six times in a week but was never actually interviewed. This is the reality. We need to be very careful in identifying these kinds of agencies and consultancies.

Of course, companies conduct background verifications of candidates. Similarly, candidates also have full rights and different ways to cross-verify whether a company or consultancy is genuine or not!

Ways to Verify Company Authenticity

As per my knowledge, all companies and consultancies will have their own company website. You can search it on Google to get more information about the company, which contains all the details. You can even ask the concerned person to send a test mail to your ID from their official mail ID to check whether that person is working in that company or not. If they send you a test mail from their Gmail/Yahoo/Hotmail IDs, it's not trustworthy.

Beware of Fraudulent Practices

One more thing to make clear: please never pay any amount to any consultancies or companies before getting placed. Nowadays, there are lots of such cases happening. Recently, some frauds cheated most of the candidates by claiming they have openings in Videocon Company and asked for a 15,000-rupee amount for interview security. But it was completely fake; it was done only for money.

So, beware of such cases. Don't blindly pay an amount to such fake consultancies and companies.

I fully agree with Propellant Consultants, and I would like to correct Ms. Swetha. Frauds are committed even after having websites and official email addresses. Many placement agencies in India use Gmail IDs. Does that mean they are not genuine?

There are many small agencies that provide jobs abroad even though they do not have a website at all. Business email IDs also have a cost, and the internal team of a recruitment agency always has targets. Recruiters often, in order to reach their targets by hook or by crook, make changes in resumes and force candidates to appear for interviews. No recruiter has the right to make any changes in the resume; they can only delete the contact details and add salary details of the candidate.

Why do candidates have to pay registration and other hidden fees? Those agencies that ask for money before providing any job assistance are generally considered fake and not genuine. It is advisable to avoid them.
