Hi All,
I want clarification from u whether women should be made to work in night shift or not
fayeg
Hi,
With the boom of BPOs, we have many women who are doing late shifts. Of course if there is a drop, then it would be safer.
I see no harm as to why women cant do night shifts.
Thanks
Darkhorse
I dont find any reason why women can't/shouldn't work in night shifts. Gone are the days where differentiation of jobs based on Gender. We should be really proud about us for creating a good atmosphere for encouraging them to work in Night shifts

Hi all,
all of you are thinking towards one side of the coin. Have you all forgot the incident of a lady employee who worked in one of bangalore based firms(nigh tshifts) and got raped and killed by the cad driver itself
she was newly married.
some feel it secure and some do not.

Hi Mohan

Initially the labour law was very strict that female employees should never be employed between 6.p.m and 6.a.m, but now as others have rightly mentioned with the boom in BPO/Call centre industries the govt has introduced some amendments as well. The following are some of the things which you need to follow when you employee female staff after 6.00 p.m

An exception has to be availed from the Labour commissioner in a prescribed format (i think it is FORM R)along with the following attachments

1. A written statement from each and every female staff on their willingness to work after 6.00 p.m

2. Cab Facility with a security is must and the details of cab driver has to be submitted to the nearest police station. This ack from police station has to be attached

In have attached an amendment made in Karnataka Shop act addressing the minute details. I have attached the same for your reference.

hence for your query if a female staff can be employed in nights shift the answer is YES but after following all the necessary procedures, else the Laour commissioner is empowered to take serious actions.

Thanks and Regards

Dinesh

It depend upon, in which state of India you are operating, every state has got it,s own labour laws. In maharashtra it is Shop & estalishment act , for IT Sector it is both maharashtra it is Shop & establishment act and Maharashtra IT ACT 2003, which gives few privileges to IT sector.

Do those rules about employing women at night only after obtaining their consent, arranging transport etc apply only to ITES or also to women who have been working in night shifts since decades - like nurses, doctors, airport cleaning women, air hostesses etc?

Hello Gautham,,
Its not about thinking one side of a coin. It's about appreciating the amount of progress we made to provide the facilities to women working in night shifts.
One incident or a minor percentage of results will not effect/prevent on women to not work in night shifts.
Thanks,
Raghav

hi darkhorse,
Yes I do agree that its goo to hear that women are given a chance to work in night shifts.
How can we say that its the only incident which has happened. After that happening the BPO companies in Bangalore have taken necessary steps and precautions to avoid such kind of incidents to happen because of cab drivers.
its not that you or I to make a decision regarding their job.
Its welcome for women to work in night shifts.
but how secure does they feel is much more imporatant.
regards,
gowtam
