Feeling Stuck After MBA in HR? Seeking Advice on Next Career Steps and Courses

Dear Sir/Madam, I have completed the 3rd semester in MBA (HR) and am also working in the HR department of an outsourcing company that conducts auditing for different clients. Sir, I want to add some other qualifications to my profile, but I am confused about what to do. Please suggest what steps I should take to enhance my career in the HR department.

Options for Further Qualifications

Please suggest options between PhD, M.Phil, LLB, SAP, and any other courses that I can pursue.

Confusion is not bad itself; worse is the case when it remains for a long time, that too, unkempt. You are not late. First, decide if you want to be in academics or in a corporate setting, or if you want to own your own business catering to supporting big corporations. An M.Phil or Ph.D. is helpful only if you are planning to be a teacher or lecturer. An LLB degree is undoubtedly very beneficial in our profession, whether you are in the service industry or in manufacturing, but it is a time-consuming degree. You should plan to pursue it through distance learning without jeopardizing your experience in the industry.

SAP is something that will take you out of the full-fledged HR domain as it is highly technical in its orientation. Moreover, it requires certain eligibility criteria which you can find on the SAP education partners' site in India. It is also quite costly. At this stage, you should consider looking into one to three months of training for a specific HR domain function such as payroll, administration, recruitment, policy, labor laws, or employee benefit legislations. Your primary concern at this stage should be to secure a job first and then plan for growth. You can also consider preparing for PSU jobs given your age, academic background, willingness to work hard to compete rigorously at the all-India level, and your self-appreciation.

Additionally, you need to update yourself with the 7 Key Areas of HR: staffing, performance appraisals, compensation and benefits, training and development, employee and labor relations, safety and health, and human resource research. This will help you further in building your career in HR, which is crucial for any HR personnel.
