Confused About SAP HR vs. SAP ERP? Seeking Advice for Career Growth in HR

vrushali saraf
Firstly, I am very confused between SAP HR and SAP ERP. What is the difference between these two? I have completed my MBA in HR. Which course would be most suitable for me? I am hesitant to pursue SAP as I am an HR professional, but I am seeking better growth opportunities and higher-paid jobs. Could you please suggest which course is currently in high demand?

It is Shivendra. SAP is an exhaustive ERP, and SAP HR is one of its modules. You can go for SAP certification only if you have 2+ years of corporate exposure. It is exorbitantly costly; however, it comes with ample growth opportunities. You have to be very clear about it before entering into it.

Feel free to ask anything.

I am pursuing an MBA in HR and I am interested in undertaking another HR course. Would studying ERP HR be beneficial in enhancing my knowledge?

Hi Shivendra, I am from Pune and have 4 months of experience as an HR Generalist. I received a call from one of the SAP training institutes regarding the course, and they informed me that I am eligible for their module. However, based on my knowledge, it is true what you mentioned about needing 2+ years of experience. Please guide me if you have any information about this. The institute's name is Global Enterprise Infotech Solutions.

Thank you.

Hi Shivendra,

I have 2 years of experience, but is it worth doing SAP? Nowadays, every institute offers all types of courses. Which institute is the best for SAP from your point of view?

Understanding SAP HR and SAP ERP

SAP HR is part of the larger SAP ERP system, which is quite extensive with 74 modules in total. The HR module is just one of these. SAP is a real-time software designed to manage and promote organizations. After certification, there are three profiles you can work in: implementation, support, and end-user. In India, only Siemens and Genovate are authorized to certify you, and the eligibility for this certification is having corporate experience of 2+ years. It is quite costly.

As for career prospects, they are excellent—a green field. Other institutes may try to profit from you, but compared to the approximately four lakh rupees, if they charge thirty to thirty-five thousand, they might be providing you a foothold in this field. Furthermore, you can pursue certification. Those without 2+ years of experience won't be considered by the agencies mentioned above. However, after SAP training, you might find the actual certification good enough to secure a position in SAP requirements.

Technical Expertise and Domain Knowledge

Amit, one thing I want to clarify is that SAP involves technical expertise related to the installation and maintenance of software in specific business fields such as HR, Finance, Marketing, Logistics, Inventory, etc. Domain knowledge is essential to customize the software according to the organization's requirements and policies where you would be working as an SAP expert.

Shivendra

Hi Shivender, I have completed a BTech in Computer Science and an MBA in HR, but I don't have any experience. Can you suggest whether I should go for SAP HR, SAP ERP, ERP HR, or any other short-term courses?

Thanks,
Monica

I have done my MBA in 2010. I am currently learning SAP, and right now, I am working as an HR Manager in an IT recruiting company. I believe I should make a change to a SAP career. Please let me know the best option. My job in the IT recruiting company is on the night shift.

Could you please help me with what should be my next step?
