Please let me know how you differentiate between competency and skill.

Also, what is the difference between competency mapping and skill matrix.

Hi,

The word "competency" refers to a person's ability to do the job, while "skill" indicates their ability to perform the job precisely, accurately, and effectively.

skill relates to a specific activity or behavior. This usually involves manual tasks, such as typing, but can also refer to mental activities, such as solving a mathematical problem.
competency is usually more encompassing that “skill” and is often used to refer to the collection of skills, knowledge and attitudes required to perform a work task to a minimum standard
hope that helps

Skills are required for the workers, and competencies are needed for managers.

For example:

Machine operation is the skill of a worker, and leadership is the competency of a manager.

A skill matrix is used to identify the training needs of the workers, and competency mapping is essential for training, appraisals, and the selection of managers.
