What Types of Rewards & Recognition Work Best in a Captive BPO Setting? Seeking Ideas!

AnandR
I am in the process of recommending Rewards & Recognition to the HR department for approval. Before I proceed, I would like to know the kinds of Rewards & Recognition that can be implemented in a BPO environment. I would appreciate getting some detailed ideas about the different Rewards & recognition that can be followed. Our BPO is a Transactional Services Company (Captive BPO).

Thanks,
Anand R

Dear Anand,

You can offer some rewards to the employees such as:

1. Best Agent/Consultant/Employee/Star performer of the month/quarter.
2. Best Management - For heads who are the right hand for management in all activities.
3. Best Technical Leadership - Head of R&D, next level to management, who mostly does programming and new projects.
4. Most Efficient Employee - Middle-level management, who does their work without any expectations from management.
5. Best Loyalty - Those who have worked a lot for the company's benefit and growth as a friend.
6. Most Progressive Employee - Newly joined employee.
7. Best Newcomer - Newly joined employee.
8. Best Employee of the department - Best in Embedded programming.
9. Extra miler of the team/department - In the respective field.
10. High-Value Sales - Huge order from a single company.
11. Best Contributor for the team/department.
12. Perfect Attendance Award - For those who have not taken leave.
13. Best Software Support.
14. Best System Support.

You can also give them gifts like T-shirts with the company logo, jackets, mementos, movie tickets, concert tickets, and certificates.

Hope this helps you.

Shubhag,

What yardsticks are used while measuring each of the awards? Like when you receive the best employee of the month award, what criteria are used? When you mention the Best Newcomer, how are they compared among the newcomers and what relation does it have with the existing employees? I have provided my email id, and I would appreciate it if you can interact via email.

Thanks for your ideas and much appreciated.

Dear Anand,

Basically, we look into the Key Result Areas (KRAs) of the employee, productivity, attendance, initiatives, and teamwork. In our company, we have monthly reviews where each employee is required to list out their accomplishments, goals for the upcoming month, and any extra initiatives. Based on these reviews, their team leader or manager rates them each month as either "Did not meet expectations," "Partially met," "Fully met," "Exceeds expectations," or "Distinguished performance."

For newcomers, we assess how quickly they learn the processes, take over work, understand their KRAs, maintain attendance, and handle additional responsibilities.

Hi All,

I am also working on the R&R program for my company. My company is in the online marketing business, which also has a small BPO and software division. Kindly suggest accordingly. Also, how can we decide the parameters to judge the type of rewards? If some light can also be shed on the budgeting for R&R.

Waiting for a response.

Thanks :)

I will tell you about some awards in the IT sector that I know of:

1) Project Star - Given every quarter, recognition for good work in a particular project.

2) Super Star - It is a yearly assessment, and the award is given to an employee who has performed exceedingly well throughout the year.

3) Longevity Award - For completing 2 years on a single project.

4) Long Service Award - For serving the company for a period of 3 to 5 years.

I hope this information is of some use to you.

Respected Shuba,

Firstly, my profuse and profound gratitude for volunteering to help me. As for the company that I am working for as an HR Generalist, it is typically a medical equipment distribution and partly manufacturing company. Its core function is sales and service. The company is demographically distributed both in India and around the world, so I am supposed to implement the rewards and recognition policy for my company.

"Best performer dining with the CEO" and other cash incentives are outdated according to my top management. Therefore, if you could suggest some relevant yet effective suggestions, I would be very grateful to you.

Mahendra Kumar

Dear Mahendra,

As you said that your company is into sales and service, you can recognize your employees when they achieve their sales targets by giving them some gift vouchers, movie tickets, small get-togethers, ethnic day celebrations, quizzes, training sessions, concessions on education, lunch, yoga sessions, and spa treatments (as stress relievers). If you think all these are classic enough, I would suggest you should conduct an employee survey for your company for rewards and recognition, choosing volunteers from each department. Collect and consolidate the data and propose the same to the management. This will also help you to know what your employees are expecting from the company. As you also mentioned, your company operates all over the world. In fact, you can send your employees to work on an offsite duty for a week or 15 days based on their quarterly, half-yearly, or yearly performance, depending on the budgets.

Apart from it, you can have a family day session where the employees can bring their families. This will also help build your company's goodwill. These small recognitions can really make them happy.

Please find the attached document. This might be helpful.

Dear All,

Before plunging into introducing "Employee of the Month," best salesperson, good actor, etc., please read the attached article and make sure you are headed in the right direction. Otherwise, you will be taking a great risk of damaging employee morale.

Hi,

You can incorporate rewards as part of your retention strategy. I work in the automotive industry, and the kinds of awards we offer include Employee of the Month, Red Carpet Winner (best new joiner), and quarterly awards for the best team on the floor, etc.

I hope these awards provide a baseline for you.

Hi All,

Generally, employees get tired of their regular work, and Rewards and Recognition (R&R) is a tool to divert their minds a bit and change their mindset towards the organization.

Now, if we all use our own intellectual processes to determine what facilities could make employees happier based on our company or industry, we can cater to their preferences. For example, in a BPO environment, employees might appreciate movie tickets, pizza coupons, food vouchers, and similar perks. On the other hand, in service manufacturing units, employees would likely value benefits that directly impact them.

You should have metrics to measure your business either daily, monthly, or quarterly, etc. Pick one or two of the parameters that directly improve your business and where your employees have a direct influence. Devise a system for accumulating money until the end of the financial year or giving it immediately. Finally, initiate the process of rewards and recognition based on these parameters for the employees.

For example, if acquiring new insurance policies is the parameter for improving your business, analyze how many policies are sold and the total insurance premium. Additionally, gather customer feedback on your employees and compare the returns provided to customers for their investment.

For a more in-depth approach, consider exploring the "Balanced Scorecard" and customize it to suit your specific needs.
