Understanding DA/IDA on EPS 1995 Pensions: Are Pensioners Eligible and at What Rate?

k k mishra
I want to know whether DA or IDA is admissible to the pensioners on the pension amount they received upon their superannuation under EPS 1995, and at what rate (%)?

As per the Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, the contribution is paid on basic salary + DA. Therefore, for the calculation of pension, DA will be counted.

Though I am not fully conversant with EPS 1995, I am an LIC Pensioner under LIC Pension Rules.

LIC Pension Rules 1995: DA Calculation

As per LIC (Employees) Pension Rules 1995, DA is applicable and calculated based on the Full Basic Pension as per the AICPI(IW) on the 1st of February and 1st of August every year. The rates of DA applicable differ according to the dates of retirement as wage revisions take place by merging DA with Basic pay from the effective date of revision. DA is applicable on the full basic pension even if the commutation of 1/3rd pension is taken on the date of retirement.

Good morning. If the question is regarding a pensioner receiving DA/IDA on the pension amount, the answer is no. The pension payable under the EPS scheme is fixed, as calculated on the date of retirement, and it does not change.

In my opinion, no DA/IDA is added to the pension under the EPS 95 Scheme. However, only after the evaluation of the Pension Scheme from time to time by the EPFO, the pension amount is increased. But, for the last so many years, this has not been done.

Pension Details Under EPS 1995

The pension is payable under Paragraph 12 of the EPS 1995. There is no provision for the DA on the pension in the scheme.

I took VRS from VSNL and receive GOVERNMENT PENSION for the period prior to its conversion as a Public Sector Undertaking. From the date of its conversion, I receive a pension under the EPS 1995 scheme. While I get regular DA increases for my government pension, no such thing happens to my EPS pension, and it has remained constant all these years and will remain so forever.
