Please may i know the Meaning of Relieving formalities?

When a person is leaving an organization either because he/she has resigned or retired it is incumbent on the HR to have a check list which acts as the guide to the relieving formalities.
The relieving formalities are focused on smooth exit of the employee to everyone's satisfaction. The formalities will vary from organization to organization but broadly it would would cover the following.
- It will have to ensure that the person being relived has handed over all documents and assets and charge properly.
- That there are no dues pending from the person eg. IOU's and that he has got the requite clearances from the relevant departments.
- That all the dues to the individual are calculated and the cheque for the dues to the employee along with the relieving letter, experience certificate etc are given to the employee on the last day.
