Curious About Leave Travel Allowance? Questions on Eligibility and Family Claims

khyat
Hi, I'm Khyat Dattani doing my summers in an IT company.

I wanted the following information on LTA:
1) Is there any minimum period criterion for claiming LTA? Like, how many days does one have to be on leave to claim LTA?
2) Is it mandatory for the employee claiming LTA to be a part of the trip? Can they claim it for their family? For example, a journey made by their wife and/or children in which the employee was not a part.

Any other information relating to LTA will be really appreciated.

Thanks a ton in advance, guys.

If the children and wife are dependent members, in that case, he can claim the LTA; otherwise, he can't claim.

Please refer to your company's LTA policy.

My previous concern arose after a three-day leave, during which I had to submit my bills. I also submitted the car bill. (I had been outstation with my family, booking a car for a two-day trip.)

Dear Khyat,

For claiming LTA, one needs to be a part of the trip. It does not matter if the wife and children are dependent or not. You can claim for them as well, but you definitely need to be a part of the trip. One needs to take at least 3 days of leave to avail tax-exempted LTA.

Hi Kyat,

It depends from company to company. In my company, one has to show 5 working days' leave to claim LTA, and yes, the employee has to be part of the trip while claiming the amount.

In my company, I have applied for LTA. Since last year, I have worked only 217 days. Management is saying that I can't apply for LTA since I have not completed 240 working days in the last year. They granted me 7 PL on a pro-rata basis (as per company policy, an employee should take a minimum of 6 days PL for claiming LTA). Please tell me whether I'm eligible for LTA or not, as well as for Gratuity and bonus also.
