Hi Sahil,

I have reviewed your CV and have a few comments to offer:

1. When detailing your work experience, remember to include the companies you have worked for along with the dates. For each position, provide a couple of bullet points outlining your responsibilities.

2. Consider moving your hobbies section to the last page. Page 1 should prioritize essential information, as it is typically reviewed more closely.

3. Enhance your list of strengths. You likely possess more than just four!

4. Pay attention to your formatting. Ensure consistency with headings, avoiding a mix of capitalization, underlining, and different font sizes. Utilize tabs for spacing information across the page, such as at the top of page 1 for your contact details and at the end for personal information. Using spaces may cause printing issues, leading to an unprofessional appearance when the prospective employer prints your CV for an interview.

I don't mean to nitpick, but your CV holds significant importance and serves as a key to your future. Strive to make it as polished as possible.

I hope these suggestions are helpful.

Regards,
sahilpandey05
Thank you, John, for guiding me in the right direction. I'll revise my CV based on your comments. I believe it will benefit me in the near future.

Dear Sahil,

I hope you are doing well. Thank you so much for your kind reply. Actually, I need your help. I am presently working as an Assistant HR Manager in a BPO (non-voice) company for the past four months. It is a start-up company, and all the HR activities are disorganized. I do not have any work experience prior to this. There is nobody here to guide me. Lately, I have been feeling that I am not gaining enough exposure here. Please guide me on how to learn the HR processes in the best possible way. I am quite anxious. I am looking forward to your reply.

Thank you.

Hi Sahil,

It looks okay; however, there are some formatting issues with tabs in a couple of places, e.g., Work Profile/Contribution and Interests. You need to fix those. Change the font for your name at the top. Fancy fonts don't really work. It's better to have your name in a clear, easy-to-read format. After all, your name is your MOST important asset!

I don't think you need the name of the Company Secretary in your CV. Just refer to him as the Company Secretary. That is sufficient. I would try to simplify your objective and use simple words. It is too wordy and a bit "over the top," so to speak. If this resume is to progress your career towards Company Secretary, maybe try to focus on that.

Hope that helps.

Krupa,

Sorry to read that you are having problems. However, there is plenty of help to be had here at CiteHR.

I would suggest that you first take some time to sort out where you are in your HR process and make a list of the things that need immediate attention.

Then, one by one, type some key words into the search box at the top of the page. For example, if you need information about PF or Leave, there is a wealth of material already posted here by other CiteHR members, and you are likely to find answers to many of your questions.

If, after that, you still have a question, then come back to the forum and ask the question, but please give as much information as you can. Members cannot help you if your request is vague or not thought through.

You mention that you are working as an Assistant HR Manager, which implies that there is an HR Manager above you. Why is he not able to help you with your questions?

It may also help you to make contact with other HR professionals in your town or city, as they may be able to assist you with answers to general questions and help alleviate some of your stress.

Hope that helps.

Hi All,

I would like to request all of you to provide me with details of the skills required to clear an interview at a big company. My nephew is in his final year of MTech, and he, along with his friends, would like to know the techniques required and what questions may be asked during an interview.

Please help.

Warm regards,

Niraj Johri

It should be relatively straightforward to work out some of the questions that may be asked by studying the position description for the job your nephew is applying for. They will be looking for a person with particular skills and attributes which should be detailed on the PD.

Dear Friends,

John and Krupa, nice to see your replies on my computer screen. First of all, John, thanks again for showing kindness by reviewing my resume and providing your valuable feedback to make it more effective. I personally acknowledge the mistakes after attaching the resume. I am aware that there is a need to polish the bullets and numbers. However, I also want to mention that when I attached my CV, there was an inherent formatting issue on my end.

Yes, you are right. I believe there is no need to mention the name of the company secretary; simply the term "company secretary" is sufficient. I intended to provide a reference to the individual I worked under, who is a renowned figure in this area. I appreciate your perspective, and I will remove the name accordingly.

Additionally, if you notice any discrepancies in my CV, please inform me again. This feedback will help me refine my resume and enhance its effectiveness.

Lastly, Mr. Krupa, for your information, I am not in HR; I work in the secretarial and legal department. Therefore, I may not be able to assist you extensively. John has provided some valuable suggestions that I find helpful. If you require any assistance from a secretarial and legal standpoint, please feel free to inform me, and I will do my best to help you resolve your issue.

Hi Sir,

Thank you so much for answering my queries. Actually, I don't have an HR manager here; I am the only person who has to take care of all the HR processes. But still, as you said, I will definitely read all the HR materials available on this site. Once again, thank you so much. I will get back to you for any further queries. Take care.

Hi Niraj,

"Interview" - this word sounds tough, hectic, and full of difficult situations! However, believe me, it is not as challenging as everyone assumes. An interviewee should be confident and have thorough knowledge of the field in which they are appearing for an interview. They should be dressed formally, as it is the key dress code for every business organization. The interviewee should communicate with the interviewer in either English or Hindi, based on their comfort rather than struggling to interact in English, which could create a negative impression.

These are the foundational elements on which the complex process of an interview is based. Hence, mastering these basics is crucial for interview preparation.

To begin, seek the interviewer's permission to enter their room, greet them politely, introduce yourself, and if you have prior work experience, share that information. If you have been with a previous organization for more than one year, it demonstrates your stability, which can impress the interviewer.

Always wait for the interviewer to finish speaking or asking a question before responding. Interrupting during their speech can give a negative impression and may be viewed as immature. Therefore, always respond or ask questions after the interviewer has finished speaking.

These are some basic requirements for a successful interview. While this may not cover all aspects, it provides a brief yet helpful guide. For further technical advice, you can reach out to John from Australia with your queries.

Keep in touch!

Hi Jyoti,

Your resume looks okay.

I would suggest dividing your objective into two parts: Objective and Personal Statement (or any other heading you feel comfortable with). Your objective should basically be the first sentence. The rest should be concise and to the point. Objectives should not ramble.

Reverse the order of the positions in your current job. For example, March 2010 to Current Date should be listed first, moving backward. Employers should not have to search for current information.

For Mar 2010 to Current, move the job description down under the dates to match the format of the other entries.

Move your Strengths section to the first page and separate them out. Some of your strengths seem to be combined. For instance, "Good Interpersonal skills-Good communicator, Leadership, high integrity" could be rephrased as:

- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Leadership
- High integrity

Ensure consistency in the use of capital letters throughout your resume.

Check for proper spacing after commas and other punctuation marks. Use the Show/Hide Paragraph Button in Word to identify any spacing errors.

Maintain consistent line spacing throughout your resume. The duties section for Oct 2007-Mar 2009 and the overall Oct 2007 to Date should match the rest of the document.

When listing your email and contact numbers, use tabs instead of spaces to align them correctly for printing.

Consider printing out your resume and reviewing it line by line to ensure proper alignment and a consistent style.

Attention to detail is crucial. Small mistakes can make a big difference in creating a positive impression.

Good luck with your job search.

This is Ravi, and I uploaded my CV. Please suggest changes to my CV. Currently, I am working at SKS Microfinance Ltd in Internal Audit, but I am not getting good opportunities from other companies because my profile does not match with their requirements. Please suggest which way I should go.

Jyoti,

Looks better now, but you still have instances where there are no spaces between words or between commas and the next word, etc. I know it is a little thing, but it is important to get it right.

Also, put an extra tab in front of your email address to line it up with the phone numbers on the next line. Looks neater.

I would still suggest putting your name at the top in a larger font size. Personal preference, I know, but I think it looks better. Your name needs to stand out a bit more.
aussiejohn
Dear Ravi,

The resume looks okay. I would suggest sharpening up the objective to focus on what you can offer a prospective employer, but keep it short without rambling.

List your strengths/skills on the first page.

Try to be a bit more creative with the duties of your jobs. At the moment, they just read like a bare list of things you did. What about some achievements? Have you saved the company money or solved difficult problems, etc.?

Regarding your profile not matching other companies' profiles, the simple answer is to tailor your resume to fit the job you are applying for. Many people (myself included at times!) send out a basic resume. However, we now know that the "one size fits all" model doesn't work.

When you find a job that interests you, study the job description/role statement/profile, etc., and then tailor your resume to meet those specifications. Highlight the things the employer wants and leave out any irrelevant information. The simple truth is that you MUST meet the requirements of the employer and give them a reason to interview you.

Good luck with your job search.

CV.. When I was in BPO, and even people walked in without a CV, the HR team used to make their CV. So, a CV is an important thing, but it also depends on manpower demand and position. Don't worry too much about the CV. Keep it neat but don't make it fancy. It's my personal opinion. You have the right to disagree.
