Contract Worker Leaves Without Claiming Wages: What Should the Contractor Do?

Dear All, One contract laborer is leaving in the middle of the month and not claiming his wages from his contractor. In this case, what does the contractor have to do with that salary? Additionally, the worker will not sign the wage register, so it may be noted by the labor inspector during his inspection. Please guide me regarding this.

It is not a big issue. Maybe you should withhold the salary amount from his RA bill. Another way is if the security amount is deposited, then there is no need to worry. Whenever the labor claims for wages, pay from that.

You need to deposit the same with the concerned Labour Welfare Commissioner under the heading of Unpaid/Unclaimed Wages. As per the Labour Welfare Act of almost every state, there is a provision to deposit such unpaid wages with the welfare commissioner of that particular state. The labour inspector rightly pointed out.

Dear Senthil,

Please do not panic. You have the database of the contract laborer. So, please send the unclaimed amount by money order to his residence and staple the acknowledgment copy of the receipt of the money in the wage registers. That is fine. No one can question you, and this is a fair practice.

Unpaid wages have to be deposited to the concerned Labour Welfare Commissioner's office with details of the employee. Clearly, the LWF Act states this. For your kind information, please go through the Labour Welfare Fund Act.
