Mr. Anil, I am not looking for this. Work study; this is something like an apprenticeship. The information which I am searching for is on the subject below:

WORK STUDY & EMP. PRODUCTIVITY

Work study is the systematic examination of the methods of carrying out activities to improve the effective use of resources and to establish standards of performance for the activities being carried out. Work study aims to examine how an activity is being carried out, simplify or modify the operation method to reduce unnecessary or excess work or the wasteful use of resources, and set a time standard for performing that activity.

Thank you,

Sijith

No, I am not a student, but I need to present some materials on this topic in my organization. I want to know how a work study is conducted and what elements are involved in that. It would be great if this can be explained with examples related to the aviation industry.

Introduction to Work Study in Industrial Engineering

Work study is a form of Industrial Engineering. It was first introduced during the evolution of widespread industrialization for the study of processes an industrial worker had to adopt to complete an operation in manufacturing and how to simplify the processes to lessen the fatigue element of the workers to increase efficiency and productivity. Now, it is also being adopted for work measurement and to prescribe work standards in offices under the name work study.

To be brief, Work Study is the systematic examination of the methods of carrying out activities to improve the effective use of resources and to set up standards of performance for the activities carried out by industrial workers or office employees to fix job standards. This also helps the management understand the actual workforce/employee requirements for certain jobs. Work study also prescribes ways and means to simplify the complex procedures and processes of work to enhance the productivity of office employees or industrial workers.

Components of Work Study

Work study includes:

- Job description/specification
- Method study
- Work measurement
- Time study by conducting on-the-job time tests

Can anyone share some information on work study with some examples (case study)?

Thanks

The above comment from psdhingra sums it up nicely. To evaluate a process, it needs to be broken down into small elements. Each element has a time or can be given a time, or can be timed actually and compared against a standard.

Scenario Analysis

Tell us all what is wrong with this scenario: An operator needs 15 parts to complete an assembly. Each time he needs an item, he walks 10m to the storage rack to collect a part. This takes 4 minutes. How do you reduce the time?
