Feeling Stuck in My HR Role: Should I Take a Trainee Position with a One-Year Bond?

Hello Seniors, I am presently working with an overseas consultancy as an HR Assistant, but I am not learning the HR activities. Instead, I mostly handle the job search services department, where I search for jobs for clients overseas. This includes posting their resumes on various portals and modifying them according to international standards. I feel like I'm getting stagnated and am looking for a job change. I have an opportunity as an HR trainee in a mid-level Medical Transcription Company. Can I go for it? I need to sign a bond for 1 year.

Please give me your valuable suggestions.

Hi Sudha, according to me, you should join the new company. If you continue with the consultancy, you will get stigmatized with recruitment only. In order to learn the entire gamut of HR activities, you need to get into a company. However, you should first inquire about the job profile, i.e., will it be in recruitment only or will it cover other HR activities as well.

Yes, you should go for the new job. Staying with a consultancy, you will only learn recruitment. If you're interested in a generalist HR role, then you need to move ahead. Regarding the bond part, you should seek proper advice on that.

Hi Harpreet, regarding the job profile, they said that initially, I will be trained in the areas of payrolls, internal recruitments, and at the later stages on ISO Audits. However, I am not clear on how far I can learn because, in the early stages of our career, we should have good learning opportunities. The employee strength of the company is 200. But as I need to sign a bond of one year, and if I break it, I have to pay 30,000/-. So, I'm confused about whether I should take up the opportunity or not. As it is a medical transcription company, how much can I learn about HR activities? Would that experience be helpful to me?

Hi All,

I heard that medical transcription companies do ask for a bond for one year as an HR trainee, and they just make us do all the admin-related work rather than HR activities. That's the only reason I am more worried to sign a bond and to take up the opportunity.
