New HR Role Without Guidance: How Can I Build My Reputation and Confidence?

sbharathi_83
Hi,

I am an MBA HR graduate, but I don't have any practical experience. Now, luckily, I got an offer in a very good company. However, here, no one is available to guide my work. I need a complete description of my work as this is a major concern, and I have a little fear in my mind. Please guide me on how to establish a good reputation in my organization.

Regards,
Bharathi

Dear Bharati,

Congratulations! First of all, do not feel nervous. When I joined WNS, I was also like you. I had just graduated. I learned all HR aspects in the company itself. Now, I am working as a TL HR with 4 years of experience. Anytime you need any guidance, please feel free to write to meet2hemraj@gmail.com.

Hi,

Not to worry. No one is born experienced. It may take time. Just observe the activities without passing any comments. I hope you will succeed.

Dear Bharathi,

I believe instead of getting nervous, you should take this as an opportunity to teach yourself. I know since day 1 you won't be perfect, there are lots of chances of you committing mistakes, but yes, it's all up to you how well you learn from your mistakes. This will be such a lesson that you won't ever forget in your complete career.

I would still surely like to help you if you require any assistance. Feel free to contact me at aditi.janrao@gmail.com.

Hi Bharthi,

From your post, I can infer that yours is a newly established company, and you may need to establish an HR department. Therefore, you should have an HR manual and an employee manual, which you can obtain from CITEHR.

Furthermore, you can divide the entire HR function into small segments, including recruitment, offers, referral checks, onboarding, joining formalities, induction, probation/confirmation, appraisals, training and development, compensation and benefits, as well as HR policy formulation and implementation.

Gradually, you can develop forms and standardize all activities. Continuously explore CITEHR; you will undoubtedly find a lot of valuable resources, as it has been a guide for me as well.

Subsequently, you can align your Key Result Areas (KRAs) according to your company's size, type, nature of business, or by referencing any information on previous practices. Initially, you must identify the company's HR requirements that need fulfillment, and then prioritize your actions accordingly.

You will need strong analytical skills and a good deal of common sense. For statutory compliances, you can always seek guidance from senior professionals on CITEHR.

If needed, you can contact me at rashee.sarkar@yahoo.com. It would be my pleasure to assist you.

Thank you,

Rashee

Hello,

I am studying MBA now, but I have some little knowledge that I can share with you. Firstly, have confidence in yourself and don't fear. Don't think that you don't know anything. You haven't described your job description or criteria, so in my opinion, you should be positive and communicate more with your subordinates in a harmonious way so they can help you in your work. Don't disclose to anyone that you don't know your job, as they may discourage you. Congratulations on your future and all the best.

Dear Bharathi,

Here are some steps that may help you:

1. Remember the questions that were asked during your interview. It can help you understand the company's expectations from you and act accordingly.
2. Make some good friends there; they can inform you about the tasks done by your predecessors in your position.
3. Start by efficiently performing the tasks assigned to you.
4. When given any assignment, always go to your boss with some options, rather than just being a messenger. This will help create a positive impression on your boss and boost your confidence.

Stay in touch, I am here to help you.

Thanks,

Hi Rashi,

I need some help. I am currently working in a company that primarily focuses on electrification and fiber optic networking jobs. In terms of management, we have 25 to 30 employees in-house and more than 50 employees on-site. I am looking for guidance on how to transition the on-site management employees to a payroll basis. I would appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Thank you,
Shailza Singh
