Feeling Stuck in Recruitment? Seeking Advice on Transitioning to an HR Generalist Role

Dear Members,

I have completed an MBA in HR and am currently working as an HR Executive (Recruitment) in one of the growing recruitment agencies in Nagpur. However, I do not want to remain in the same profile for long. I am seeking a generalist role, which I am unable to secure due to my experience solely in recruitment. I aspire to grow in the field of HR. What steps should I take to build a successful and progressive career? Could anyone please provide me with guidance?

Hello Pooja,

If you have completed your HR and are sticking to recruitment in some agency, leave it as soon as possible as it is a vicious circle. The more experienced you get in recruitment, the more difficult it will be for you to get into CORE HR processes. In case you want to pursue any courses further, then try to learn some ERP software like PeopleSoft, SAP, or any other HRIS. Apart from that, you can get certification courses in Performance Management, Compensation Management, Labour Laws, etc. Even if this does not work, try to offer your services to any corporate firm as an intern and prove yourself as a knowledgeable HR personnel utilizing all your MBA HR concepts. Working in a recruitment agency will take you nowhere close to a Core HR career. I am a victim of it as well, Lolz. However, I have covered it up by trying as an intern in CSC and am now working with them in the HR strategy team.

I am also trying to get a job in the HR generalist field in Pune. As I am an MBA (HR) fresher, will it be easy for me to secure a job in the HR generalist field, or are there any courses in Pune that will help me grow in this field? Please suggest me. I am waiting for a reply.

Thank you very much, Sourabh, for your guidance. Can you tell me one more thing? Can I pursue certifications while continuing with my current job, i.e., through distance/online learning, as I am going to complete just four months in recruitment this September? Or could you suggest some cities where these courses are offered, and where the certifications will hold great value?
