Hi Rajesh,
This is a wonderful opportunity for you to market yourself before your new boss. First and foremost is to identify the objectives of the HR department:
a. HR procedures and strategies.
b. Understanding HR functions in terms of recruitment, selection, placement, training & development, employee relations, performance management system, payroll function, etc.
c. For each function, you can show the data (if you have past database for a time period), derive employee statistics, attrition rate, reasons for attrition, etc. Similarly, for training, the number of training interventions, attendance in training, etc.
You can present your views about employee retention strategies. If you are planning new HR initiatives, you can present those as well and have a discussion with your boss. He should feel that you are a proactive HR executive.
Best wishes!
Regards,
Sreedevi
