Eager to Expand in HR: Which Key Activities Should I Focus on Next?

saravananrgcet
Hi guys, this is Saravanan, working as an HR recruiter in a leading software company with an employee strength of 200 in Chennai. For the past 3 months, I have been handling the pre-recruitment process. Now, I am very eager to learn other HR activities. I have informed my wish to the Managing Director, and he is asking me which area I would like to focus on learning. Can anyone guide me on the important key HR activities I should concentrate on more? I am looking for precise answers. It would be greatly appreciated if you all could suggest your opinions.

Thanks & regards,
Saravanan A

Hi Saravanan.A,

Since you are involved in recruitment, there are yet many more areas on which you can focus. For instance, performance management systems, database management, employee retention activities, counseling, grievance handling, team building exercises, and organizing events for the employees, etc.

Thank you.

Re: Priority in HR Activities

Hello Murali, I have completed an MBA in HR through a full-time course at Pondicherry University and am theoretically strong in all HR concepts. I am looking for practical exposure in key HR activities within my organization. Kindly suggest which part of HR activities I should focus on initially as a beginner.

Thanks & regards,
Saravanan A

Being an HR professional, you have to observe the performance and attitude of all employees so that you can handle counseling, grievance handling, and performance management. Dear all, is my point of view correct? Please explain.

Hi Mona,

Thanks for building up my confidence. Now, I would concentrate on my MBA. Is it better to do SAP in HR along with the MBA?

I also started my career in recruitment. The best and most relevant functions in HR for you will be Training & Development (T&D) and Attendance and Leave Management. T&D is a very vast area to learn and understand. I suggest you speak to your Managing Director and inquire if they can provide you with this opportunity.

Regards,
Shalini
