Stumped in an Interview: Can You Share the Latest Changes in Industrial Laws?

Hello everyone. I am happy to ask for this information. Recently, I attended an interview where I was asked about the recent changes in industrial laws, and I didn't know the answer. Would you please share the information with me?

Please address the modifications in the ESI Act, Gratuity Act, Workmen's Compensation Act, and any other relevant statutes.

ESIC: Enhancement in Limit

The limit has been increased from ₹10,000 to ₹15,000. The ESI Inspector will now be known as the "Social Security Officer." Apprentices and trainees will also be covered. The age limit for dependents has been increased from 18 years to 25 years. A new section, 51-E (Notional extension of premises), has been introduced, which means an insured person commuting from residence to premises and vice versa shall be deemed to be in the course of employment for the purpose of benefits under the act.

PF: Enhancement in Claim under EDLI

The claim under EDLI has been enhanced from ₹60,000 to ₹1,00,000. Additionally, an SMS facility has been introduced for updates on withdrawals, challans, returns, etc.

Gratuity: Enhancement

The gratuity amount has been increased from ₹3.5 lakh to ₹10 lakh.

Workmen Compensation Act Renamed

The Workmen Compensation Act has been renamed the "Employees Compensation Act," and the enhancement for the calculation of claims has increased from ₹4,000 to ₹8,000.

REG: Recent Changes in Industrial Law

Apart from ESIC, GRATUITY, and the EMPLOYEES' COMPENSATION ACT, the PF's EMPLOYEES' DEPOSIT LINKED INSURANCE SCHEME (EDLI) has also been amended, thereby increasing the benefit to one lakh from 50,000/- in the case of an employee's death.

Additionally, the Industrial Disputes Act of 1947 is in the process of being amended, as The Industrial Disputes (Amendment) Bill 2010 has been passed by the Rajya Sabha on 3.8.10.
