Understanding Lateral Recruitment: What Is It and Why Does It Matter for Companies?

singhps21@indiatimes.com
Hello all,

Can anyone update me on what lateral recruitment is and what significance it holds for a company? I kindly request that instead of providing me with links to various websites or webpages, you could please share the information here. I would be truly grateful for that.

Thank you.

Dear Prashant,

The term "Lateral Recruitment" has two different connotations, though in a way they are connected. In campus recruitment, 'lateral recruitment' denotes the recruitment of candidates with experience as compared to freshers. The focus here is more on the number of years of experience and the corresponding role that those numbers of years can get you into. However, in normal organizational recruitment, 'lateral recruitment' deals with sourcing candidates with relevant experience from within, but more often from outside, to a position at a similar level. Here the focus is on salary, talent acquisition, and sometimes domain expertise.

Hope that helps... I am open to other definitions/inputs.

Prashant,

I've gone through lateral recruitment myself. I started my career in taxes, but there was an immediate requirement in the workflow management team. The HR sent out an email asking the employees to apply for the position if they were interested, so I did, and my skills and traits matched the profile they needed. Hence, internally I got reassigned to the other department. This helps avoid recruitment and training costs. People are familiar with the functions; they just need to have process training.

Hope I was clear.
