Stuck in Background Check Limbo: How to Handle Silence from a Former Employer?

ashwin01
Hi all,

I am working as a Software Engineer. I recently joined an MNC company after leaving a startup where I worked for 1 year and 6 months. I served a 2-month notice period and had a tough time with my technical lead and manager there.

Since I know the HR person from my previous company very well, I provided his reference with contact email ID. Recently, the HR person called me and informed me that the management asked him not to respond to the background verification of mine. He also mentioned receiving numerous reminders via email from my current organization to process my background verification.

What can I do now?

Ashwin,

I feel very bad for the situation which you are facing now.

I think it's better to consult your previous management about this. If not, you can ask your present company to consult the management instead of the old HR. They may give a reply regarding your management. As per the norms, companies need to provide feedback for employee background verification.

Dear Ashwini,

If you were relieved from your previous company as per the company rules, and if you have a relieving letter and all the necessary documentation, then you need not worry about a reference from the existing company.
