I am working as a line HR for a team of 8 employees in an IT company. During the employee satisfaction survey, I found that employees are interested in having Friday fun activities.

Could you please suggest some activities that I can implement in our company?

(1) Celebrate themed days such as Black & White Day, Mismatch Day, Yellow Day, Green Day, etc., which will help keep everyone motivated and energetic.
(2) Consider having a meal or tea together on Fridays and someone sharing a joke or singing a song; this can help them destress.

Employee engagement is one of the most challenging and interesting attributes of HR. You have to be active and creative all the time. Having Friday fun is a good way of implementing it.

From my experience, I can suggest the following:
Try creating a fun club with 2 members (as you have only 8 employees). Prefer selecting the most vibrant person as the club member alongside you.
Set a budget for your activities in terms of gifts and prizes (in accordance with the management). The average fun club gifts usually fall under the budget of 300 to 500/- per month.
Suggested gifts include: CDs, novels, books, wind chimes, corporate mugs, etc.
Allocate 45 minutes for Friday fun every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month. Play individual games, and if the team grows, switch to team games. Announce the winner and take a photo for the intranet/notice board display.

I would suggest activities like games and small birthday celebrations as a surprise. These things help to bring out the child in the employees, and they feel happy and get motivated as they learn that the company cares not only about their work but also about their happy moments.

Thank you so much for your kind replies. Our Company's MD feels that Employees are not happy with their jobs. I have joined the said company from Monday. As an HR manager, I have noticed that Employees do not have any grades. They are happy with their salary, which is actually at par. Timings are pretty okay, i.e., 8:30 to 5:30 am, Sat-Sun off.

Although the company was registered, it didn't have the shop act, which I brought to the notice of MD, and soon afterwards, we applied. Now we will have PT and VPF. No Gratuity as there are only 8 employees. No ESI as everyone is getting more than 30k (no one is getting below 15k).

I strongly feel that there are no fun activities at all, no team building. MD thinks he is paying employees well, so employees should put their 100% and be productive enough. He believes employees are leaving because the market is booming up. He wants me to take steps that will change employees' attitude.
